Import to Photos failing Wed Jun 08, 2016 2:43 pm • by Dave61
Yesterday I set up a new workflow to rename photos (with creation date), and then import them to Photos. It worked great!

Today, the same workflow fails with a message like this:

2016-06-08 20:34:49.006 hazelworker[89417] 2016-06-08 IMG_6095.CR2: Rule Load to Photos matched.

}

I have tried this on two machines, with Photos open at the start and not (yesterday, it was closed at the beginning).

Any ideas?

In Photos, open its preferences. Check the library location and see if it is the system library. If the "Use as system photo library" button is enabled, you need to click that.

It was the system library when it worked and still is. Tried rebooting, but that did not help.

Are you importing into the library as a whole or a specific album? Try playing with switching it between the two to see if that changes anything.

I was importing to All Photos, switching to a specific album ("New album") works with Photos open or closed at the start of the action.

Just tried to import using an Automator workflow instead of Hazel, with same result:
- importing to a top level folder = works
- importing to All Photos = doesn't

If it's not working with Automator then I suspect there's a problem with Photos itself. Unfortunately, I've found Photos to be very unreliable but it's what we're stuck with.

If your library is not in the default location, you may want to play with creating one there and see if that works.

I think you are right.

Today I had a go at importing a group of photos (without an album) using Automator. It worked every time that it was the only action in the workflow (but failed when there were other actions following). The problem seems to occur when importing several photos one-by-one, which I think is inevitable with Hazel.

Fingers crossed that automation of Photos in Sierra is a bit more stable.
