Hey all, n00b question here. First time user of Hazel.

I have the following rule (the only rule I have):

if ALL of the following conditions are met for THE FILE OR FOLDER BEING MATCHED
KIND IS PDF
Do the following to the matched file or folder:
RUN SHELL SCRIPT EMBEDDED SCRIPT

This rule works when dropping a new file in the folder but NOT on the existing file. I guess Hazel is only triggered when something happens to the folder but why doesn't it detect the old files? There are a ton of PDF files in that folder.

I can see the rule running in every 30 minutes in the log but it doesn't match any of the existing files. When clicking the little eye icon to verify the rule Hazel shows me all the existing files match that rule.

Trying to see if Hazel can help me out before I buy it. Thanks!

Try the logs. Go to the "Info" section and click "View Log". Search for one of the files not being processed and see if there are any relevant messages there.

Thanks, I checked the logs and I see it runs the rule but does not find the files. If I drop a new file in the folder it does see it.

Try turning on debug mode (see the sticky article for how to enable it). Email the logs of a run after doing this and I'll take a look.

Jumping in to this thread that is still open.

Running 4.0.1. I am trying to OCR existing pdfs using an applescript in Hazel, copying this post from Katie Floyd http://katiefloyd.com/blog/automatically-ocr-documents-with-hazel-and-pdfpen.

The folder I am using as a test contains multiple pdfs yet when I set up the condition Kind is pdf Preview tells me Rule does not match.

The rule runs in that PDFPen opens and closes, and a red tag is added but the pdf is not OCRed. I have run it in debug mode, but don't understand the data returned. I have emailed the log separately.

Thank you.
