Recommended way to get EXIF date

I'm trying to use the date a photo was taken (as recorded in the EXIF info) but I can't figure it out. None of the date option I've tried works. The Finder also gives the wrong date if I look at the file info but if I use Preview and the info window there the correct time is listed as "Date Time Digitized" and "Date Time Original".

Does anyone have an idea how to do this?

Search the forums. The EXIF date is not provided by the system, for some reason, so you need to use a script to extract it.
