Subfolder Depth Preview Bug? Wed May 11, 2016 6:20 pm • by Aelver
Hello,

I am trying to create a rule which creates a notification when the monitored folder is empty of all folders and files:

For some reason it doesn't work. When I preview the rule, the 'sub-file/folder' count is correct (it has one folder in it, in this screenshot),

... but the real issue is the 'subfolder depth' shows a crazy high number, even though I am previewing the monitored folder:

Thoughts? Thanks.

That's a bug. I'll look into it. For the record though, files at the top level will be at subfolder level 0.

Actually, it occurred to me that you are previewing the monitored folder, which you shouldn't be able to do. Rules are for the contents of the monitored folder itself.

I'll fix it so you can't select the monitored folder in preview; for your case, you need to have Hazel monitor one folder level up and then have the rule try and match the items within it.

Thanks Mr_Noodle.

My concern now is, how could you confirm you were at 'subfolder depth = 0' if you can't preview the monitored folder? I understand 'preview' is for the contents, but the 'subfolder depth' rule is a little special as it isn't dependent on the contents of the folder.

Moving up a level and making 'subfolder depth = 1' will create more issues than it solves. Is there a reason this rule shouldn't work on 'subfolder depth = 0'?

Thanks.

I'm not sure what the problem is that you are describing. The files under the monitored folder are at depth 0. The files one level lower are level 1.
