What photo software if you manage photos using Hazel and Fin

As far as I can tell, there are a quite a few Hazel users who use Hazel to rename and file photos. And then use folder hierarchy on the Mac to save files and to access files. I like the idea and have learnt from those who have so generously shared their ideas as to how to do the above.

However, now I am wondering what software I should use that does not save everything in its own library. I have tried using Picasa. It is ok. But Picasa leaves me wanting some for a more powerful photo browser and editors - a-la-Aperture or Lightroom. Any ideas as to what software can be used?

I tried digiKam - that did not even install on my Mac. What software do you use?

Well I use preview, the most simple solution~
