Folder Sync Question Tue Sep 29, 2015 10:06 am • by nicolaselhani
Hello,

I'm new to Hazel.

Any tips or help in solving the following problem would be appreciated.

I have a folder called "Documents" on my Mac. Within it are multiple files.

I have a folder called "Documents" on my iCloud Drive.

a. Every time I tag a file with the red color within "Documents" on my Mac, I want a copy to go to "Documents" on my iCloud Drive.

b. Every time I remove a tag that has a red color within "Documents" on my Mac, I want the file that was previously copied to "Documents" on my iCloud Drive to be deleted.

c. Every time I edit or modify a file that has a red color tag within "Documents" on my Mac, I want the file to be updated on my iCloud Drive with the newest version of the Edit, replacing the old version.

Is it possible to have the above three conditions done in Hazel?

Thanks,

Nick

Hazel cannot remove files like that. You can use the Sync action on the folder containing the file, and if it is deleted on one end, it will be removed on the other. But in that case, you can't control which files end up being synced individually (i.e. based on color tag). If you want just a straight up mirroring of files in that folder, then check out this thread: http://www.noodlesoft.com/forums/viewto ... 1593#p6500

Thanks for your reply.

Ok, so what if I forget about the deletions in the destination folder.

Is there a way to make sure at least that if a tagged file is edited or updated in the source folder, that it is updated in the destination folder?

Thanks!

Yes, that should be doable with the Copy action. Have the conditions check for the tag and whether it's been modified ("Date Modified is after Date Last Matched") and you should be set.
