I think I ruined my desktop files. I ran Hazel and included subfolders on some of the standard rules. Now I have a desktop with about 60 folders, within which exist a few more subfolders of the same name, and the original files are gone. It appears the files have been renamed and set as folders, rather than files. Is there any way to restore? :(

I don't think Hazel can turn files into folders. I'd check the logs to see what happened. Go to the "Info" section and click "View Log". Search for one of the files in question to see what happened to it. Feel free to email an excerpt of the logs in.

The only real way to restore is doing it from backups. Otherwise, you'll have to dissect the logs and manually reverse things.

What portion of the logs do you want? This happened yesterday, and there are many lines in the log file. I find it surprising that something so dramatic can happen for a new user just trying out the trial with no way to reverse the damage. My backup files are two weeks old, so I’m going to have lost a tremendous amount of material if you can’t guide me to reverse this mess.

Did you email in about this? If so, let's continue this there. Email the whole thing as well as the time period where you think this started happening. Also, send in the rules you had set up.
