Multi-step file renaming Wed Jun 24, 2015 8:57 am • by hatticus
Whenever I download my payslip from work they're called payslipReport. I want to use Hazel to rename them, increment a number, and move them to the relevant folder for me. They should end up being named something like JOB WEEK ## LTD.pdf

So far I've got it half working - I can get them renamed to JOB WEEK ##.pdf and moved to the correct location, but I can't seem to add the second text string after the number. Also, I haven't been able to get the number starting at the correct point, it just started from 01 and counts up.

Any suggestions for how I can tweak this?

Where is the second part coming from? Also, it's not clear to me how you want the numbering to work. Can you elaborate?

I was trying to get the second part (the 'LTD') to work using the Name > Replace option, by leaving the first option blank and replacing with LTD, but that didn't seem to work.

Sorry, could have been clearer about the numbering - it's working, but I want to start it from a specified number (13) and count from there.

If it's just the text LTD every time, then add it to the pattern itself. Just type it in at the end.

A perfect, I didn't know I could do that! :D

Any thoughts on the numbering?

You can set the starting number using the commandline but it might just be easier to run the rule on a test file to increment it up to the number you want.
