So, I foolishly let a poorly-formed Hazel rule run before previewing it and now there's a bunch of duplicate files in many subfolders. But not to worry, I thought—I can just check "Throw away duplicate files" on that folder with the Apply to Subfolders rule and Hazel will clean it up for me!

But despite trying multiple variations based on what I'm reading in the forums here, it's just not working. I'm sure the answer is simple, but I'm missing it.

First off, Hazel does recognize that the files I want deleted are duplicates (even warning me in the pop-up that it might delete them):

And as you can see I have the "Throw Away: Duplicate Files" checked:

And I'm telling it to look in subfolders:

But despite forcing runs and waiting a day and checking and unchecking that box, the duplicates still remain.

What am I doing wrong?

Are the files actually identical (as in exact same content)? Dupes are only purged when that is the case.

Yep, they are the exact same content. They are actually the same files moved by Hazel twice because I didn't have the don't copy duplicates thing checked.

Turn on debug mode (see sticky article at top of forum) and check the logs to see what it's doing with the file.
