Subsecond Exif data for Hazel file renames

Subsecond Exif data for Hazel file renames Sat Mar 18, 2017 5:12 am • by jchip
I've used Hazel for a number of years now, mostly to automate my photo and home video workflow. It all works fine, however there's one minor fly in the ointment...

I don't seem to be able to extract the subsecond Exif data from photos for Hazel file renames, which means quick photo sequences within the same second appear as duplicates when renamed by Hazel.

I can see SubSecTimeDigitized and SubSecTimeOriginal within the Exif data and that is unique to each photo.

Any suggestions as to how to pull this SubSec metadata into Hazel? Simply using milliseconds in file rename patterns doesn't work when Hazel doesn't appear to recognise these Exif fields.

If that field isn't indexed by Spotlight (so that Hazel can see it), then you'll need to use a script. Search the forums for 'exiftool' which is a common program people use to extract EXIF data. You can probably adapt that to your needs.
