Syncing between two computers?

Talk, speculate, discuss, pontificate. As long as it pertains to Hazel.

Syncing between two computers? Wed Nov 23, 2016 11:50 am • by amro
I run Hazel on two computers, and I was wondering if there was any way to sync the rules between the two machines?

Do I copy and import into each machine? What is the most efficient way of doing it?

Thank you for your help.

Right-click on the folder whose rules you want to sync and select "Rule Sync Options". You'll still need to use some sort of file syncing service like Dropbox to do that actual syncing of rules across machines though.

I am confused about whether I can sync Hazel rules between two computers. The manual does not seem to cover this. I saw an article claiming this functionality was introduced in v4, but I am on v5 and have not been able to find out how to do it.

Appreciate suggestions even confirmation it can't be done.

Thanks

You can have folders share rules via a file. You need to use a service that will sync that file across machines, such a Dropbox or whatever other service you choose.

Great. I have services available to do that.

"...folders share rules via a file".

I took this to mean that I should point Hazel to a folder where the rules are stored and for that folder to be in a service like Dropbox.

I cannot find where the rules are stored. There does not seem to be a place in Preferences where you select where you store the rules.

Am I on the right track?

Thanks

You should not do this for Hazel's internal files. If you use the sync feature, you set up a new file then.

Check the manual for rule sync.
