Automatic File by first letter

It would be great if there was an automatic File By First Letter where the file would be placed in sub folder based on the first letter of ther name.

For example I have a thousand Disk images in a folder and I want to file them is a set of folder

A
B
B
...
Z
#

I'm looking into the basic functionality of sorting into subfolders with some control over the name of the folder. Will have to think about how to handle the case you describe though.

For now, if you are handy with AppleScript or shell scripts, you could write your own sorter and have Hazel trigger that.
