Can Hazel help me solve this problem? Thu Aug 28, 2008 3:54 am • by Prion
Hi all

I am trying to get my head around this problem but can't, so far.

I have lots of pdfs of research articles that I collect in a dedicated folder in the Finder. Depending on whether or not this pdf has a text layer or not, I will proceed differently: (a) import pdf into reference managing program (Sente) directly or (b) OCR the pdf first. Importing pdfs without text layer is possible, however, my workflow heavily depends on my references being searchable, hence I would like to avoid importing pdfs without text layer.

Can any of you think of a way to do automate this and have Hazel move pdfs with/without text layer into different subfolders in Finder?

Any help greatly appreciated

I'm not sure how one would detect if a PDF has an invisible text layer. I don't see any metadata for it and I'm not sure if there's any tool to get that info.

Some sort of script would be needed but I don't know enough about these PDFs to know how to go about doing it.
