Images files opened by rule intended for spreadsheets, why?
Posted: Thu Jan 08, 2026 3:45 pmCan someone explain why a Hazel rule intended to open spreadsheets is opening image files in Preview.app. I found this by
1) Open Hazel log
2) Drag Img_2704.jpg into the monitored folder.
3) Wait until the image opens in Preview app
4) Search log for 2704
5) The full search result is pasted below. The rule it referenced: Rule Open Spreadsheets Moved from Downloads matched.
Toggle the rule off image files do not automatically open.
Toggle the rule on and image files open.
Test the rule on an new image file and the only green check is "Date added in the last minute" Her is the rule:
Date added in the last minute
Extension is: xls, xlsx, csv
Open with default app
