This my be departing form hazels current purpose but would be handy if could define a rule to run when keyboard shortcut is pressed.

Use case:

I could press some keys and all the text files I have used today could be moved to the desktop. Then another shortcut is pressed and they are returned to there place.

That way I could set up dynamic groups of files that come and go as I please.

It's something I'll think about but in the meantime, maybe you can create an AppleScript/Automator action that you can trigger by a hot key (you can use something like Fastscripts for this) to, say, set a color and set up the rules to move the files back and forth based on that.

Is there any way I could force hazel run the rules "now" via apple script. Because sometimes hazel takes a few mins to do it's magic. Mostly this doesn't bug me but If I tried this with this use case I would need some faster hazel magic.

You can write a script to "touch" the monitored folder. Or create any file there and then delete it.
