Using postal code data with the Hazel app Wed Aug 13, 2025 6:27 pm • by Lea64
Hi everyone,

I’ve been experimenting with the Hazel app to automate some of my workflows, and I’m wondering if anyone here has tried working with postal code data in this context. My idea is to have Hazel automatically sort or tag files based on location information extracted from documents, which would require a reliable postal code reference.

I’m curious if it’s feasible to integrate a global postal code dataset with Hazel’s rules, maybe through scripts or external lookups. Has anyone attempted something similar, or found a smooth way to make Hazel recognize and act on postal codes in different formats?

Any tips, especially about handling different countries’ code systems, would be really helpful.

It depends on what location you are using. If this is a limited, discrete set, then you could try using tables (look it up in the manual). Otherwise you'll probably need to use a script.
