Automatically delete an included folder

Automatically delete an included folder Mon Jun 09, 2025 4:20 am • by Harry_Cover
A correspondent frequently sends me emails containing folders as attachments.
I manually download folders files to the Downloads folder.

These folders contain useful documents, but also the same useless identification folder, with the same name.
How could I tell Hazel to automatically move this folder to the trash?

Thanks in advance for helping.

Are the useful documents inside this folder? Are you moving those documents out of the folder?

Thanks for quick replying.
Both are good but moving the useful documents wood be still better.

So the documents are in the folder? Can you provide me with a concrete example demonstrating the file/folder hierarchy?

Yes of course!

MAC DOWNLOAD ƒ
——————> RECIEVED DOCUMENT AUTOMATICALY RECOGNIZED AND CLASSIFIED ƒ
————————————> Useful DOCUMENT File to save (move or copy) to a received DOCUMENT ƒ
————————————> Useless ID ƒ (to delete automatically immediately or manually later). This folder has always the same unchanged name.

A simpler way could be:
You extract the Useful DOCUMENT to a backup ƒ, and then simply delete the 1st level RECIEVED DOCUMENT ƒ.

You'll need a rule to have Hazel go into that subfolder. Look up subfolders in the manual for the chapter dedicated to the topic.

Since the name is the same, you can use "Name is <whatever>" to match it and throw it away.
