Automate backups to external drives

I want some backups to an external drive automated. Does Hazel sound able to accomplish this?

When I put in a given external disk, copy everything from a designated folder to that drive (skipping any files that have been copied previously), and (this could be the difficult aspect) let me know of any files which have been deleted from that folder but were previously copied on the external device.

I don't think the second part can be done. There is the option to mirror one folder to another. Look up syncing folders in the manual.

Otherwise, I'd suggest software specifically designed for backups.
