Losing Rule Groupings

Talk, speculate, discuss, pontificate. As long as it pertains to Hazel.

I have twice organised my rules into specific (rule) groups.

Both times the groups have been lost and all rules are now just listed.

Mac OSX 10.13.6.

Does this happen between launches or does it happen without having to quit the app? Can you reproduce this on demand?

As far as I'm aware it is between launches.

Do other changes stick? For instance, if you reorder the folders?

The ordering of the rules for a given Folder/Directory appear to be constant.

So, no changes to the folder list are sticking? I suggest you email in to support. I wonder if the permissions on your Hazel preferences were changed.

I reorganised them a few more thimes under High Sierra but I kept on losing the Folder Groups.

Last week I bought a new Mac Mini and upgraded to Monterey.

Last week, I once again sorted my rules into Folder Groups.

...and, once again I've lost the groupings.

Any updates on why this might continue to happen.

Again, can you test if adding folders stick?

The folders I created on setting them up under Monterey lasted a couple of days.

I'll set up a couple of folders now and report back when they too cease.

It's happened again.

This time I noticed that as I opened Hazel it was indicating that 2 folders were no longer linked (I had deleted them).

Maybe this has some bearing upon losing rule groupings.

Were you deleting folders when it was happening before? Does it work when you remove them from Hazel and add them back in?

Quite probably. I move stuff around quite regularly.

Does it work when you remove them from Hazel and add them back in

I don't think so.

I had linked to a "Music" directory on an external drive but then decided to move all my music back onto the startup SSD( the mac osx "Music" directory).

I then deleted the external hard drive "Music" directory. When I opened hazel today it was the external "Music" directory that it had identifed as Missing and the groupings had gone.

I subsequently relinked the startup SSD "Music" directory but the grouping didn't return.

I have now created the other missing directory and again launch Hazel. The grouping did not return.

Sorry, didn't mean that the grouping would return, but that groupings would stay intact after you corrected the problem. If they do, then maybe the act of having folders getting unlinked from Hazel is what is causing the problem.

Also, can you post a screenshot of the folder and group in question?

Sorry, but this isn’t possible as I’ve completely lost all the groupings. All i have now is a flat listing of linked directories.

If you re-create them, take a screenshot and save it. If the issue happens again, send that along with the names of the folders that were deleted, if deleting them is what was causing the issue.
