Re: OCR PDF in Acrobat

Having problems running Applescript in Hazel Rule. Want to OCR for Spotlight searches of downloaded bank statements. Hazel identifies downloaded PDF using "source/url address" and renames the file and moves it to another folder - works as desired. However, when I add an action to run the p...

Re: OCR PDF in Acrobat

I'm not sure if I understand what you did. If you hit record that generates a script and has nothing to do with the script macdrifter supplied. By your description, I think what you did was generate a script of you pasting macdrifter's script into the AppleScript editor. Just take that text and past...

Re: OCR PDF in Acrobat

I've tried to run the script, but I get the following error: "Applescript failed. Error using Applescript OCR_using_Acrobat.srpt on the file [file name].pdf." I've never created an Applescript before, so I suspect that's my problem. I opened AppleScript Editor, Clicked on ...

This is a great idea! We've been doing those in batches, I'll have to see if I can do this in Hazel on an unused machine... :)

Re: How to get Hazel to recognize OCR'd files

... here is that there is no metadata that I know of that distinguishes between an OCR'ed file and not-OCR'ed. It's up the program (in this case Acrobat) do add that information. Can you have Acrobat add keywords when doing the OCR? Otherwise, can you have Hazel trigger the OCR instead of the ...

How to get Hazel to recognize OCR'd files

I batch process pdf's with Acrobat, Acrobat dumps them back into the same folder with the same file name. I hate that as sometimes the process gets and error so some get processed and some don't. That can be solved if Hazel can pick out ...

Re: Sort to folder

... how that wasn't obvious to me... On a simi-related note, it would be nice to be able to have the OCR rule run on every PDF, but simply quit if Acrobat hit an error. Anyone have any thoughts? I'm using the OCR script here: http://www.noodlesoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=595 A way to ...

Sort to folder

... it moves the doc to PDF Docs, then sorts it into the year and month folders? (or, on a side note, if there was a way to suppress that bloody Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 warning that comes up when you try to OCR a document that dan't be OCRed, I'd happily just set the PDFs all to dump into PDF Docs, and ...

Re: OCR PDF in Acrobat

Thanks for the update. I don't do much OCR now but have been thinking of getting some OCR software at some point for a project so it's good to hear about what people are using and how.

Re: OCR PDF in Acrobat

... not running. I already own DEVONthink Pro Office 2, so I decided to checkout the included ABBYY OCR engine. The accuracy is actually better than Acrobat. It's pretty slow in comparison to Acrobat, but the quality of the text recognition is important and the process is completely automated by ...

Re: OCR PDF in Acrobat

Has anyone tried to use the highlighter pen functionality in the scan snap software to attach keywords to the scanned pdfs and then have hazel automatically rename the files based on the keyword data and move it to the correct folder? If so I'd be very grateful if you could share exactly how you've ...

Re: OCR PDF in Acrobat

Hi,

It's interesting to read the different approaches to the filing of scanned documents. I have written my approach on my blog at http://103home.com/?p=193. Whatever approach is taken Hazel sure makes the process much easier.

Cheers
