Hazel finds wrong date in document

Got your file. It works fine for me here. Have you tested against that specific file? If it still doesn't work, can you email (not private message) me the rules you are using?

I have a similar issue where hazel would not find the first date in the PDF. However, the parsed string in the preview clearly shows the first date (no strange characters in between), but the second date is recognized instead. (I tried both auto date and a customized date pattern)
I assume that the text in the preview window is the raw text extracted from the pdf and that's the text that is used to detect the patterns? The first rows of the extracted text from the preview are as follows (dashes are redacted info).

the date I need to extract is in line 12: 05/04/2024 (fifth of April), hazel recognizes the first of march 2024 further down:

I tried automatic date detection, that actually found the 3rd date in the document (31/03/2024), and
also with a pattern with tokens: 31/12/1999, which also found the 31/03/2024

Try searching for the specific text (05/04/2024) without copy and pasting it. I suspect there might be some hidden characters in there.
