most accurate OCR software for mac? Sat Nov 16, 2013 7:14 pm • by clayc
i know this isnt directly about hazel but its affecting hazel. none of the OCR software im trying is accurately OCRing numbers eg serial numbers or account numbers. im trying to set hazel rules to see these numbers but the OCR software isnt working as expected. Im converting the pdfs to greyscale and taking out some of the background to make it easier to OCR.

ive tried pdf pen and PDF OCR X

any advice on OCR software to use with hazel?

I recently paid for an upgrade to the newly-released ABBYY FineReader Pro for Mac. It came out about a week ago. It is much more accurate than anything else I've seen on the Mac, head and shoulders above the Express edition that comes with ScanSnap.

However...for some inscrutable reason, it does not support batch OCR or scripting control. ABBYY isn't selling a higher priced version that does, so it leaves me scratching my head. If it did support this, I'd love to integrate it with Hazel. I tried doing it with Keyboard Maestro, but it's quite kludgey.
