Organize into folders not working correctly

Organize into folders not working correctly Tue May 07, 2013 12:57 pm • by mclearr
I have several rules set up to move files into a specific folder (Statements), and then into subfolders organized by year (2013, 2012, etc...). But Hazel is moving the files directly into 'Statements' and not into the designated 2013 subfolder.

This behavior seems to occur with some rules and not with other rules, which are working correctly.

I would appreciate any hints or suggestions on how to troubleshoot this problem or correct it.

Thanks!

Possibly some issue with Dropbox? I suggest trying it in a non-Dropbox folder and seeing if you get the same errors.

I was thinking along the same lines, but thought that since both rules applied to subfolders within Dropbox that it was probably something else. I will try it in a non-Dropbox folder though, or maybe I'll just turn off Dropbox temporarily. Thanks!

Any news on this problem...
i got the exact same problem.
i have tried to make the same rules on a non-dropbox folder and it is working like a charm.
but when i try to make the exact same rules on a dropbox folder i get this error:
Code: Select all

Out of curiosity, can you try it with a folder that doesn't have a colon (:) in it?

sorry forgot to write that, i have tried that. But with the same problem.

The funny part of the ":" is that it's actually a "/"

It is a "sort into subfolder" rule where one of the tokens is a comment tokken.
I got another rules with the samme pattern which work with out problems.
Another problem is that the keeps running since it tries to sort it over and over again.
but i just keeps on creating the right folder name but with a (White Space ConflictXX) at the end. Maybe that gives you a clue?

I'm not sure I understand that last part. Could you elaborate?

Since it is a "sort into subfolder" rule, it keeps running the rules on the same file because it isn't move to the subfolder.
It creates the folder and subfolder with the correct name but doesn't move the matched file into the subfolder.

The second time the rules run it creates a new folder with the correct name but with "White Space Conflict" and then a number at the end.

And so it goes on until i pauses the folder and stoppes Hazel.
Hope the clears out things.

So, did you try it without the colon?

Yes i did tried that, but with the same problem..

after ALOT of days with trial and error  , i found out the problem apparently was my invoice template.
wich was the master to all the processed excel files.

i have a rule where a applescript adds a comment based on a specifik cell in the file, and then a "sort into subfolder" rule based on that comment.

and on the HD there was no problem but after trying the rule in dropbox i got the error.

But now everything is working :D after editing the specifik cell in the file.

Again thank you for make my days alot more easy with this wonderful program!!
