Q: What's new in Hazel 2?
A: Hazel 2 has a slew of new features, including:
- Sort files into subfolders based on date, source domain or whatever combination of file attributes you want.
- Rename files using flexible patterns.
- Unpack archives.
- Better Spotlight integration meaning that you can filter on any Spotlight attribute available. You can even include Spotlight attributes when renaming or creating subfolders.
- Growl support to provide notifications of what Hazel is doing.
- Preview of which rules your files will match.
- App Sweep. Drag applications to the Trash and Hazel will hunt down its support files for you.
- New menu bar icon gives you quick access to Hazel's functions.
- The internal scheduling engine has been re-written so that it should run more reliably and perform better.
- Numerous interface improvements, engine enhancements and bug fixes.
Q: When will it be released?
A: Hazel 2 is in the last stages of beta testing which means release is imminent.
Q: How much will it cost?
A: While the final price has not been set, the price will be higher than that of Hazel 1.0. You can save by buying a license now before 2.0 is released. See the next question.
Q: How much is the upgrade?
A: The upgrade for 1.X users is free. It's just our little thanks to those of you who supported us early on. Your existing 1.0 licenses will continue to work with 2.0. That also means you can get 2.0 at the 1.0 price by purchasing before 2.0 is released.
Q: Can I test it?
A: Sure thing! The beta page is here. You should also sign up for our forums to keep up on the latest beta info and to post feedback. Note that it's near release so it may be too late for any changes to be made for 2.0 (though they will be considered for a point release).
Q: Will it be Leopard-only?
A: No. Hazel 2 will still run on Tiger. Hazel will be Leopard-ready (in a future point release) either when Leopard ships or soon afterwards.
