Moving away from DreamHost can only be good.

I personally moved all my sites away from DH in the beginning of this year, and I'm very happy so far. (My wallet isn't though... VPS aren't exactly free). Dreamhost was ok to start with, but it's really not reliable, and especially after the December / January fuckup, it wasn't really a viable solution for a business anymore.

I left DreamHost mainly because of reliability. My DH host was going down a bit lately. That coupled with problems with outgoing email resulting in people getting their licenses up to 3 days late and I just had to do something. It also doesn't help when they make a big mistake, they act a bit coy about it (such as the recent billing fiasco). I thought about switching to Pair but I will be requiring Rails support so that ruled them out.

So, we'll see how it goes. The migration has had its share of glitches but most of that can be attributable to things not being wrong so much as different. I'll do a detailed comparison in a month or two.

Congrats on the move. I've been with WebFaction for over a year and I have nothing but good things to say about them.

I should have asked you where you were migrating to when I saw you the other night. Over the weekend I was toying with the idea of finding a hosting service that offers easy installation of not only Subversion (which Dreamhost offers, and which took a little more fiddling than I'd have liked) but Trac.

I'll have to ask you next month how you like it.
